I've received a slew of emails asking my opinion on the new Alkaline Trio album artwork looking suspiciously like visuals I created for Give Up The Ghost's "We're Down Til' We're Underground" album in 2003.
John Yates is an influential and established designer who is responsible for some truly fantastic design over the years. I have great respect for his efforts. The band Alkaline Trio, I know little/nothing about, excluding that they are label mates, which makes all of this a bit awkward.
With that said, I feel this is a case of visual coincidence, likely nothing more.
If I chose to raise a case for every record, visual, band name, song name, or album title that had some relation to things I've been part of, then I'd likely spend more time complaining than ever being productive. Living like that doesn't interest me.
Anyway, thanks to the bloggers and parties who have shown concern though. Your collective observations are appreciated.
